How to be a thought leader

Leadership is all about setting the right instances for the peers, colleagues and subordinates to follow. It’s all about making the right choices and acting in an ‘exemplary’ manner so that the rest of the team will be automatically inspired to follow the footsteps of the leader. It’s not through words but through actions that leadership is attained. And, when it comes being a thought leader then the professionals will have a challenging task to attain. It’s not a matter to be taken lightly; neither can it happen in a day or two. The process takes time and when it finally does, it doesn’t take much for the person to prove to the rest of the world that they are a thought leader!

The thing about success in today’s world is to make your presence felt in a big way and for that to happen you need to promote and market your skills and experiences to those who matter. They would preferably be people who are in an influencing position for you to benefit from or who would be looking at you for encouraging words. So, how do you establish or consolidate your position in the market? It’s a simple but a time consuming process. Apart from proving your expertise in a particular area, you need to be visible to people and reach out to them. Consider online presence with the help of social networking sites or blogging (which has become one of the most popular ways to express your thoughts).

If you know big names then don’t forget to flaunt that proudly. It’s important to be connected to high profile professionals and top executives in your field and outside and it’s even more important than that to show off your affiliations! Make public appearances and speeches a regular part of your daily routine, including television appearances. Win an award or two and be recognized for your contributions. If possible, focus publishing your works on a regular basis (online or otherwise).
