Smartly listing your technical skills in the resume

Framing the right kind of resume is more about playing on your strengths and presenting them in the most comprehensible and precise manner than about describing your achievements in details. Remember that you are not writing a thesis paper. Resume is all about focusing on the high points. The details can be left for interviews as it is usually at this point of time that the recruiters care to ask you to explain. So, how do you ‘smartly’ enlist your technical skills? It’s quite an uncomplicated process so to say.

You need to start with the most important skills that you think will grab the attention from your employers and has a lot of relevance to your job profile. What you need to remember is that you will be pointing out only the technical skills and not the general skills and qualities. This would necessarily mean that your professional qualifications and experience related to the field only needs to be included. For instance if you are applying for a position as a journalist then your technical skills will include your specific experiences in report writing and information collection and how you go about doing it. Also, if you have knowledge about handling specific kinds of software then you can include this information in your CV as well. Make it a point to get acquainted with software that would get a lot of mileage when you are planning to frame this part of your CV. Be sure to mention the uses of these skills as well.

It’s also very important to remember that too much of exaggeration is not good as that might take the focus away from your skills. Another important factor to consider is the proper organization of the resume so that it becomes easy for the recruiter to locate the skills and then make their decision accordingly.
